PURPOSE:To prevent the returning position of a recoding paper from deviating and prevent color misregistration from occurring in superimposing transfer of color inks, by providing torque supply controlling mechanisms for two pinch rollers for guiding the recording paper while pressing the paper against a platen, and applying a back tension to the recording paper when paying out or returning the paper. CONSTITUTION:A recording paper 11 paid out from a recording paper cassette 1 is pressed against a platen 2 while being guided by two pinch rollers 4, 5. An ink sheet 10 and the recording paper 11 are fed in an overlapping condition between a thermal head 3 and the platen 2, and the head 3 is driven to thermally transfer a color information image in the first color onto the entire surface of the paper 11. At this time, by controlled rotation of a DC motor in a torque supply controlling mechanism 22, a predetermined counterclockwise torque is applied to the pinch roller 5. On the other hand, a predetermined clockwise torque is applied to the pinch roller 4 by a torque supply controlling mechanism 21. However, a holding force of the pinch roller 4 for the paper 11 is greater than a back tension on the paper 11, the paper 11 will not slip between the pinch rollers 4, 5.
