发明名称 METAL COATED OPTICAL FIBER CORE
摘要 PURPOSE:To improve a hydrogen barrier characteristic and water pressure resistance by providing a cushion layer around a glass fiber for optical transmission and providing a coating layer consisting of a low melting alloy having <=250 deg.C m.p. around the same. CONSTITUTION:A silicone resin is coated to about 400mum outside diameter as the plastic buffer layer 2 around the single mode optical fiber 1 having 125mum outside diameter. The alloy consisting of about 38% Pb and about 62% Sn is further extrusion-coated thereon to 0.6mm outside diameter. The m.p. of the alloy is about 250 deg.C or below and is equiv. to the m.p. of nylon. The core is thereby produced at the same production state and production speed as for the conventional nylon coated core. The characteristics of the silicone resin are spoiled if the m.p. of the alloy is about 250 deg.C or above and therefore, the m.p. of the metallic coating layer 6 is required to be set at <=250 deg.C.
