PURPOSE:To obtain a sealed lead-acid battery having good charge-discharge cycle life including deep discharge by using a lead alloy containing a low concentration of antimony in a positive grid and containing sodium ion in an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A binary or more lead alloy containing 0.5-3.0wt% antimony is used in a positive grid, and a sodium ion is contained in an electrolyte. By using a grid containing a low concentration of antimony in a positive electrode, the durability in charge-discharge cycles including deep discharge is increased and increase in hydrogen evolution is retarded in a range within which hydrogen is oxidized in the positive electrode. The water consumption in the electrolyte is retarded to a level similar to that in the electrode containing no antimony. The dissolution of lead caused by extremely deep discharge, and short circuit between positive and negative electrodes caused by deposition of lead sulfate in a separator are prevented by existence of sodium ions in the electrolyte. The cycle life including deep discharge is moreover increased. |
