PURPOSE:To prevent recording and reproducing characters of a head from being deteriorated by a step difference between a magnetic core and a reinforcing plate, by interposing a layer consisting of a nonmagnetic material whose hardness is higher than that of a magnetic core material, between the magnetic core and the reinforcing plate. CONSTITUTION:A layer consisting of nonmagnetic materials 4, 4 whose hardness is higher than that of a magnetic core material is interposed between a magnetic core 1 and a reinforcing plate 2. As for a nonmagnetic material for forming said nonmagnetic material layers 4, 4, that which has a higher hardness than that of a material of the magnetic core 1, for instance, an oxide such as SiO2, chromium oxide, etc., or chromium, molybdenum, etc., are used. It is made to adhere onto the side face of the magnetic core 1 or the reinforcing plate 2 more thinly than the magnetic core 1 and the reinforcing plate 2 by vapor deposition, sputtering, etc. A head body is constituted by joining indirectly the reinforcing plates 2, 2 to both side faces of such a magnetic core 1, and a video head is constituted by winding a coil winding through winding windows 1a, 2a, and winding grooves 1b, 2b. In this way, generation of a step difference between the magnetic core and the reinforcing plate can be suppressed, and deterioration of recording and reproducing characteristics of a magnetic head can be prevented.
