PURPOSE:To thoroughly remove foreign matter in a magnetic coating compd. by providing vertical and horizontal magnetic field impressing stages to generate a sieving effect by applying vertical and horizontal magnetic fields to a rotating medium to the stage after a coating compd. dropping stage. CONSTITUTION:The vertical magnetic field 7-2 and the horizontal magnetic field 7-1 are respectively impressed to the surface of the medium 6 from a magnet 11-1 for impressing the magnetic field in the direction vertical to the medium surface and a magnet 11-2 for impressing the magnetic field in the direction horizontal thereto while the medium 1 is under high-speed rotation after the magnetic coating compd. dropping stage 2 to repeatedly execute the oscillation to change the direction of the magnetic materials 8-1-8-n contained in the magnetic coating compd. to the vertical and horizontal directions according to the rotation of the medium 6. The non-oscillating foreign matter contained in the coating compd. is floated on the surface by such high-speed oscillation. The rotating speed of the medium 6 is adjusted to a low speed rotation of 5-400rpm and only the magnet 11-2 for impressing the magnetic field in the horizontal direction is operated to execute the orientation to arrange the magnetic materials 8-1-8-n in the coating compd. by directing the magnetic poles thereof to the specified direction. The foreign matter floating on the surface of the medium 6 is thereafter polished away by a buff material such as soft cloth in a stage 10 for polishing the surface foreign matter.
