PURPOSE:To transfer record a favorable image at low recording cost, by applying energy patternwise to a supercoolable thermally transferrable ink layer of a thermal transfer material to melt or soften a thermally transferrable ink, laying the transfer material on a recording medium, and transferring the softened ink onto the recording medium under pressure. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer material 3 comprising a layer 2 of a supercoolable thermally transferrable ink on a base 1 consisting of a metallic sheet is fed rightward. When thermal energy according to a desired image pattern is supplied to the transfer material 3 from the side of the ink layer 2 by a thermal head 4, the ink constituting the ink layer 2 is thermally melted or softened, and becomes tacky, thereby having ransferrability. Since the ink is supercoolable, it remains in the thermally melted or softened state even after the heating by the head 4 is completed, and is fed further leftward as the transfer material 3 is fed. Accordingly, the shape of the melted or softened pattern of the ink is maintained, and fidelity of the pattern to a heat supply pattern is maintained. |
