PURPOSE:To avoid wasting an ink ribbon at non-recording time, by providing a clutch mechanism for interrupting transmission of rotation, at a mechanism part for transmitting the rotation of a traveling roller to a ribbon take-up reel. CONSTITUTION:At the time of transition from a recording mode to a non- recording mode, a lever 12 is moved to a position indicated by a two-dotted line, whereby a thermal head 4 is lifted upward to be contained in a device. A corner part 15b of a turnable plate 15 is depressed downward, and the plate 15 is turned clockwise. Resultantly, a slant cam part 15c of the plate 15 pushes a slant plate 18, whereby the plate 18 is slanted clockwise with a pin 19 as a substantial center, and a driving pulley 21 is moved upward against the force of a compression spring 23. Therefore, a traveling roller 1 and the driving pulley 21 are disengaged from each other, resulting in that rotation is not transmitted therebetween. Accordingly, an ink ribbon 27 is not taken up even when the traveling rollers 1, 2 are rotated, and the ribbon 27 is prevented from being wastefully used.
