PURPOSE:To recover gaseous CO and gaseous Ar by providing three lines; gaseous CO recovering line, CO2 diffusing line and gaseous Ar recovering line and changing over the three lines by gaseous CO recovering line and gaseous Ar recovering line 3-way valves respectively. CONSTITUTION:The tampon gas of an Ar-O2 refining furnace 1 in the initial period of blowing is treated in the following manner: The gaseous CO2 is released from a chimney 9 by closing damper 12 of the gaseous CO recovering line 3-way valve 12, opening a damper 13, and at the same time, by opening damper 14 of the gaseous Ar recovering line 3-way valve and closing damper 15. Only the 3-way valve of the gaseous CO recovering line is operated and the gaseous CO is recovered in a gas holder 8 by opening the damper 12 and closing the damper 13 when the concn. of the gaseous CO is high. The gaseous Ar is recovered into a gas holder 10 by closing the damper 12 of the gaseous CO recovering line 3-way valve, opening the damper 13, closing the damper 14 of the Ar recovering line 3-way valve and opening the damper 15 when the concn. of the gaseous Ar is high.
