PURPOSE:To provide a thermosetting compsn. which gives cured articles having excellent heat resistance, adhesion and electrical insulating properties, etc., and is suitable for use as varnish, by mixing a specified parabanic acid copolymer with an epoxy resin having epoxy groups and a hardener. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of two diisocyanates of the formulas OCN-R-NCO and OCN-R<1>-NCO (wherein R and R<1> are each a member selected from the group consisting of groups of formulas I, II, etc.; and R<4> is H or methyl) is reacted with hydrogen cyanide and the resulting copolymer is hydrolyzed to obtain a parabanic acid copolymer composed of a repeating unit of formula III and a repeating unit of formula IV (wherein Z, Z<1>, Z<2> and Z<3> are each O or NH) wherein at least 75% of the repeating units is composed of a repeating unit of formula V and a repeating unit of formula VI. The parabanic acid copolymer is mixed with an epoxy resin having epoxy groups and a hardener (e.g., dicyandiamide) to obtain a desired thermosetting compsn. |
