PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer which can be increased in a dye concentration in which the polymer acts as a memory, is high in a writing speed and useful as an optical memory material, and has specified structural units and free-base phthalocyanine as side chains. CONSTITUTION:A phthalocyanine (e.g., tetraphenoxyphthalocyanine) is bonded to a polymerizable monomer [e.g., methyl (meth)acrylate] and the produced polymerizable monomer is copolymerized with a copolymerizable monomer to obtain a polymer with a degree of polymerizaton of 10-10,000, containing 1/100-1,000,000 (in a molar ratio in terms of monomer molecules) free-base phthalocyanine as side chains and having structural units each represented by the formula (wherein R1-2 are each H or alkyl, R3 is alkyl or a group whose aromatic group is bonded to the main chain directly or through an amide group or a carboxyl group, P is residue of a phthalocyanine compound and 0<x<1). |
