PURPOSE:To realize a low power expense without deteriorating the beam property, by furnishing a distortion in the circumference direction at a deflection electrode, and converting the variation rate of the distortion depending on the distance in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:The origin of the distance Z in the tube axial direction is taken at the position of the minute opening to form a slender electron beams, and the full length of a deflection electrode 5 is made L. As for the polarity of the distortion angle imposed to the deflection electrode 5, the clockwise direction of the magnetic field generated at a focusing coil 6 is made the positive. The deflection electrode 5 consists of horizontal deflection electrodes 5H1, 5H2, and vertical deflection electrodes 5V1, 5V2. The distortion angle in the circumference direction of the deflection electrode 5 is different at the first area (axial distance L1) at the electron gun side and at the second area (axial distance L2) at the target side, with no distortion of electrode at the first area while with a positive distortion (distortion angle w2) in the circumference direction at the second area. Therefore, a good deflection property is realized and an image pickup tube with low power expense can be obtained.
