PURPOSE:To reduce the burden of wearing of a boiler tube, by providing grids having a special shape in a zigzag form in two rows at predetermined intervals in the width direction of the inside of a cooling gas output duct of a coke dry quenching tower, thereby increasing the collection efficiency of powdery coke. CONSTITUTION:A grid 1 obtd. by perpendicularly juxtaposing a long rod material having an oblong crosssection equipped with a groove 4 having a width of W and a depth of 150mm or more in the front side in the direction opposite to the direction of a gas stream is provided in the width direction of the inside of a cooling gas output duct 25 of a coke dry quenching tower in two rows in a zigzag form relative to the direction of the gas stream so that the space S between grids on the upstream side and the width W of the groove 4 of the grids on the downstream side have the following relationship: S<=W. A part of powdery coke in a circulating gas containing a large amt. of powdery coke which was discharged from the quenching tower is collected with the grids 2 on the upstream side. On the other hand, the direction of the stream of the remaining powdery coke is altered at a front portion 6 of the grids 2, and the powdery coke is led to the inside of the groove 4 of the grids 2 on the downstream side and collected.
