NEW MATERIAL:Antibiotic substance PK-955A having the following physical and chemical properties. Appearance, white crystalline powder; melting point, 217-220 deg.C (Na slat); elemental analysis (%), C 64.58, H 9.30, O 23.41; [alpha]D<23>=+23 deg. (C=0.5, CHCl2); molecular weight, 738 (free) or 760 (sodium salt); solubility, soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, chloroform and ethyl acetate, insoluble in water; color reaction, positive to anisaldehydesulfuric acid reaction and negative to Lemieux reagent, ninhydrin reagent and KMnO4 reaction; nature, acidic substance; etc. USE:Antibacterial agent and agricultural fungicide. PREPARATION:A microbial strain belonging to Streptomyces genus and capable of producing antibiotic substance PK-955A [preferably Streptomyces sp.RK-955 (FERM P-8660)] is cultured at 7-7.5pH and 25-35 deg.C preferably under aeration and agitation. |
