The process for the production of fibrous metallic materials from fibres consisting essentially of iron uses the following stages: at least one surface treatment is performed on these fibres, which is such as to create a deposition of a first added metal, and these fibres coated with the first added metal are then subjected to a heat treatment which causes their sintering and the interdiffusion of the iron and of the first added metal.
