PURPOSE:To obtain a reproducing signal having a sufficient output even at the time of special reproduction with a tape recorded at a fast recording speed by providing a head wider than these heads besides a pair of heads corresponding to at least two types of a recording speed. CONSTITUTION:Heads 3 and 4 are a pair of recording reproducing heads and a head 5 is the head having a head width corresponding to a fast recording speed (hereinafter called an SP mode). When a tape 1 is recorded by the SP mode and is a slow reproducing mode, the reproducing output from the head 5 is inputted through a switch 6 to a reproducing video signal processing circuit 7. Since the width of the head 5 is wide, the then reproducing envelope is sufficient, and thus, a satisfactory specific reproducing picture without the generation of a noise can be obtained.
