The method of the invention consists in analysing the shapes f of a scene S so as to automatically distinguish among the shapes f symmetric sensitive areas P, linked to auxiliary figures F and to determine their centres of symmetry C. On the basis of a digitised image Id, and of a test point co situated inside the digitised shape fd a series of circles Co<k> are traced out with a diameter increasing around the point co. As soon as a circle co<i> cuts the digitised shape fd a new centre c1 is chosen which is offset with respect to co in a direction opposite to the direction of intersection. Thus a converging series of points cm is constructed by iteration which, if the figure is symmetric, converge towards the centre of symmetry c. <IMAGE> |
