摘要 PURPOSE:To irradiate the whole surface of a semiconductor chip sufficiently with ultraviolet rays by a glass window having the same size as conventional devices and formed at the same position by forming a cavity section at the position being eccentric from the center of a ceramic package and positioning the semiconductor chip in the cavity section just under the glass window. CONSTITUTION:An EPROM has a ceramic cap 4, a ceramic base 6 and a cavity section. A glass window 7 is positioned at the central section of the cap 4, and the cavity section 9 in a package is constituted of a recessed section shaped to the cap 4 and a recessed section formed to the base 6. The center of the cavity section 9 is made eccentric in the direction of a terminal chip 2. Consequently, a memory section for the chip 3 is positioned just under the glass window for the cap 4. Accordingly, the area of the glass window for transmitting ultraviolet rays need not be widened and the glass window be formed to an elliptical shape with the increase of the area of the chip, the memory section can also be irradiated with ultraviolet rays sufficiently, and written information can be erased positively.
