PURPOSE:To bloom an ingot having a circular or polygonal section with high efficiency by rolling the ingot with a roll pair which has the 1st direction in the axial direction, then rolling the ingot with a roll pair in the 2nd direction perpendicular to the 1st direction. CONSTITUTION:The ingot 3 having the circular section, etc. is rolled down perpendicularly by using a rolling mill having a pair of rolling rolls having the horizontal axial directions. The draft per pass in such vertical rolling is adjusted to about 1-20% of the circular diameter T0 and the ingot 3 is rolled down about 15-40% by repeating such pass. The ingot 3 is then horizontally rolled down by using the rolling mill having a pair of the rolling rolls which have the vertical axial direction. The draft in the horizontal direction is adjusted to about 1-10% per pass to flatten the circular parts 4 of both ends of the ingot 3 and to roll down the ingot in the vertical direction as well. The ingot 3 is rolled to a slab, bloom or billet having the prescribed shape by such stage. |
