PURPOSE:To improve the smoothness on the surface of a magnetic layer, the separability of pulverized ferromagnetic powder and running durability by coating the magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic substrate and subjecting the layer to a calender treatment than irradiating radiation thereon without coiling the coated material. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer essentially contg. the ferromagnetic material and a binder which is polymerized by radiation irradiation is coated on the nonmagnetic substrate and is then subjected to the calender treatment. The coating is subjected to the treatment of the radiation irradiation without coiling the coated material. The magnetic recording medium which has the excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristic, dispersibility of the pulverized ferromagnetic powder and running durability, good storage stability of the magnetic coating compd. and uniform performance is thus obtd.
