In a process for separating hydrocarbon-containing gases, in which the carrier gas is brought indirectly, with the aid of a refrigerant, e.g. liquid nitrogen, to the temperatures required for the condensation of the hydrocarbon or hydrocarbons and the condensate is taken off, whereupon the prepurified gas is post-cooled and conducted away as clean gas, according to the invention it is provided that the liquid refrigerant is used for the post-cooling and post-condensation and the refrigerant, which is thus partially heated, is used for cooling the unpurified gas and that the prepurified gas arising in the indirect condensation is also used for the indirect condensation of the unpurified gas before it is conducted away as clean gas.
