The electrical chip-type component (1) consists of an electrically active body (2) which has the shape of a cube or of a round rod and which is provided with metal coatings (4) at two mutually opposite end sides (3) and is surrounded by shrinkable tubing (5) as insulation sheath and exhibits preshaped metal caps (6) as power supply elements which are electrically conductively and mechanically connected to the metal coatings (4), the shrinkable tubing (5) consisting of polyethylene terephthalate having a crystallisation percentage of at least 50%, extending to underneath the metal caps (6) and reaching almost or completely up to the end faces (11) of the metal coatings. The method provides for tempering treatment for achieving the required crystallisation percentage after the shrinkable tubing (5) has been applied. <IMAGE>
