The invention relates to a catalytic bed for exothermic reactions between gases and/or liquids, having cooling elements (1, 3) for indirect temperature control of the catalytic bed, the catalytic bed having an inlet and an outlet for the catalytic composition. A simple operating procedure, which is precise with respect to temperature control, results from the catalytic bed (4) being bounded by the cooling elements (1, 3).
