PURPOSE:To obtain a bottled food which has an outer cover free from looseness, is sterilized in a short time and has high shelf stability, by sterilizing a bottled food equipped with a screw type outer cover under heating, reducing pressure of the food after the treatment and deaerating the food. CONSTITUTION:A middle cover equipped with a sealing material 3 is placed on a widemouthed bottle 1 packed with a food and other materials 6 to be sterilized and the bottle is provided with a screw type outer cover 4 having a packing or cushioning material 5 on the inner periphery to give a bottled food. Then, the bottled food is put in a hot water type retort device, sterilized under heating at about 1.2kg/cm<2>G at >=100 deg.C for 40min, the pressure is reduced to about 0.3kgm/cm<2>G, held for about 3min and cooled.
