PURPOSE:To ensure the positive switch-over of a transmission gear by engaging slowly a mechanical clutch provided to an engine power transmitting shaft when a speed change gear is not engaged after a predetermined time elapses since change control of the transmission gear has been assumed. CONSTITUTION:In what the output shaft of an engine 12 is connected with a mechanical clutch 8 and a transmission 5, both of the transmission 5 and the clutch 8 are controlled by a MPU 1 depending on the output from a transmission position sensor 11, an engine speed sensor 13 and the like. In this case, when the transmission gear is switched over with the clutch 8 disengaged, it is judged by the MPU 1 whether or not the transmission gear is switched over within the period of a predetermined time depending on the output from the transmission position sensor 11. And when it is judged to be 'YES', the clutch 8 is engaged linked with an accelerator pedal 3. On the other hand, when it is judged to be 'NO', the clutch 8 is controlled to be slowly engaged.
