A swing-down post as barrier, in particular for motor vehicle entrances, is provided with a joint which is arranged on a base and has a pivot pin for pivoting between an upright position and a position parallel with the ground. Both positions are lockable. A spring (27) capable of being tensioned during the pivoting is arranged in the post (1). In each case after unlocking, the post (1) can be moved from the upright position by impulse and erected from the turned-down position by the force of the spring. <IMAGE>
