PURPOSE:To permit paper sheets or the like to be taken out easily, by setting a lift waiting position in such a state that a space is formed at the side of the upper surface of the paper sheets placed on a lift. CONSTITUTION:Lift 22 moves upwardly by a spring force of a spring and automatically stops when notes have been gathered and piled. It moves downwardly again by a counterclockwise rotation of a reversible motor 25 for forming a prescribed note taking-in space on the notes B already taken in. Then, taking-in rollers 18, 19 are driven in a taking-in direction for taking in notes B fed through a taking-in port inwardly through a pair of upper and lower rollers to pile them on the notes B already taken in. Since the lift 22 is at a lowering waiting position when notes are taken in, a space is formed at the side of the surface of notes on the lift and no gathering and piling force is applied to the notes, whereby the notes on the lift 22 can be taken out easily.
