PURPOSE:To improve the packing degree of a magnetic recording medium and the sensitivity and S/N thereof by bisecting a magnetic liquid contg. ferromagnetic powder and binder and successively subjecting the respective magnetic liquids to coating, drying and surface treatment thereby superposing the same. CONSTITUTION:The coating amt. of the magnetic liquid is bisected and the treatments are separately executed in the case of producing the magnetic recording medium by coating the magnetic liquid contg. the ferromagnetic powder and binder on one face of a nonmagnetic substrate and drying the coating to form the magnetic layer. More specifically, the coating, drying and surface treatment are successively executed respectively with the bisected magnetic liquids and the coatings are superposed. Then the upper layer superposed on the lower layer after the surface treatment is executed on the lower layer side is further pressurized as the surface treatment and therefore, the packing degree over the entire layer is eventually improved. The product having the excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics such as sensitivity, S/N and frequency characteristic is thus obtd.
