PURPOSE:To eliminate the deleting processing clearing a picture element step by step and to shorten remarkably a processing time by adding a memory access control circuit and a matrix dissolving circuit for writing and executing a cross-type deleting reading action. CONSTITUTION:Reading is, first, executed through the matrix synthesizing circuit 12 of an (mXn) dot to an image memory 11 where the original image is stored, the seed picture element of the labeling processing is extracted by a luster scanning and the address is stored into an FIFO memory 14. Next, the picture element address to execute a cross type deleting reading is read from the memory 14, matrix data are read, and into the same access cycle, the attention picture element and four picture elements of the upper/lower and right/left positions are cleared once. From read (mXn) dot data, the picture element of the same attribute as the central picture element among the left, upper, right and lower directions of the central picture elements is extracted and this is stored into the memory 14. When the memory 14 comes to be empty, the area is completed and for the area, a luster scanning is restarted.
