The device consists of a lid with a plurality of locking bars arranged displaceably on the lid. In the closed position, the locking bars engage in an annular groove in the container and form a substantially continuous supporting ring. Preferably, four locking bars are provided and each pair of opposite locking bars is of mirror-image design, the bars being moved towards one another by hydraulic cylinders to open the lid.
