The invention relates to an automatic welding unit for resistance welding, comprising at least one movable and/or pivotable welding robot and a current feed which transmits welding energy and can be varied in position. In order to ensure that the electric resistance of this current feed changes as little as possible during the continuous operation and that the current feed impairs the mobility of the welding robot as little as possible, the invention provides for at least one fixed busbar to be arranged along the traverse path of the welding robot and/or for at least one annular busbar to be arranged around the axis of rotation of the welding robot, and for the welding robot to be provided with at least one pair of contact making pincers which interact with the busbar or busbars and can be actuated by auxiliary power.
