The invention relates to a device for raising and lowering a vehicle window pane, having four stationary deflecting rollers surrounded by a closed rope pull which passes through a movement drive, and having holding parts for the pane which are fastened to rope-pull portions extending in the direction of movement of the pane and which run in guides. In known devices of this type, operating reliability and anti-theft security are impaired over a long period of use. This is avoided, according to the invention, in that the rope pull consists of two closed rope loops which are separated from one another and each of which runs via two deflecting rollers, defining a rope-pull portion extending in the direction of movement of the pane, and through the movement drive.
