The invention relates to a cylinder for a piston, particularly that of an internal combustion engine, having a cylinder liner which is secured in position in a cylinder block and against the inner wall of which the piston rests, if required by means of piston rings, and having a lubricant feed to the inner wall. The lubricant is usually fed in with the combustion mixture (two-stroke process) or through the piston. According to the invention, on the other hand, the wall of the cylinder liner is of porous design in at least one longitudinal section, along which the piston begins to compress the charge, and the lubricant feed in this longitudinal section is performed through the porous wall from the outer wall to the inner wall.
