PURPOSE:To save printer forms, ink ribbons and also to improve the productivity and efficiency of a computer system, by supplying the information on a designated display area only to a printer in the form of hard copy output. CONSTITUTION:When a hard copy area designating request is issued to a CPU 1 from a keyboard 8, the CPU 1 displays 12 a frame of a hard copy area on a CRT 4. An appropriate key is selected and pushed on the keyboard 8 and a desired display area is set within the frame display 12. Then a hard copy request is issued to the CPU 1. The CPU 1 sends the coordinates of each apex of the frame display 12 and a hard copy command to a hard copy controller 5. The controller 5 calculates the corresponding address of a random access memory for display set within a CRT interface 3 from the coordinates of said apexes. Then the controller 5 extracts only the information stored in the display 12 to convert it into the data for a printer device 6 and sends the hard copy output to the printer 6.
