<p>A deodorizing filter (l0) for ostomy equipment, in particular ostomy bags, wherein a filter body (l2) of a thickness of 0.25 to 3.0 mm is encased in a housing of a flexible plastic sheet material. The filter body (l2) preferably consists of an activated carbon textile material or a foam plastic impregnated with highly activated carbon. The walls (26) of the housing are sealed to each other directly outside the periphery of the filter body and are also sealed to the flat surfaces and side edges of the filter body, leaving regions adjacent the longitudinal ends of the filter body (l2) for admitting intestinal gas and discharging deodorized intestinal gas. An inlet opening (28) and an outlet opening (30) are provided adjacent these regions, in each wall (26) of the housing, the distance between these openings being at least l0 mm, and preferably 30 mm. In preferred embodiments of the filter particularly suitable for ileostomy the filter housing is provided on the side thereof facing the source of intestinal gas with a covering sheet with openings for the passage of incoming intestinal gas and/or with a layer of liquid-absorbing material.</p> |
