<p>A baler comprises a bale chamber (6) having at least one wall (28, 38) movable generally laterally of the bale chamber (6) to vary the cross-sectional area thereof and hydraulic actuator means (76) operable to move the or each laterally movable bale chamber wall (28, 38).</p><p>The baler further comprises hydraulic sensor means (90) coupled to, and operable to sense the load on, a wall (28) of the bale chamber (6) and to control the actuator means (76) when that load exceeds a predetermined value, whereby the cross-sectional area of the bale chamber is increased to relieve said load. This allows to produce bales of substantially constant density irrespective of varying crop conditions. </p> |
