PURPOSE:To suppress the consumption of the contact parts of members to be used in contact with a molten metal and to extend the life thereof by forming the entire part of the members of graphite and coating the parts in contact with the molten metal with silicon carbide coating layers. CONSTITUTION:For example, an Al refining device is constituted of a molten Al holding vessel 40, a feely vertically movable rotary cooling body 41 and plural baffle plates 42 for decreasing the flow rate of the molten Al fixed to the inside peripheral face of the vessel 40 at prescribed intervals in the circumferential direction. The rotary cooling body 41 is formed of graphite, ceramics, etc., and the top, bottom and peripheral faces in contact with the molten Al are coated respectively with the silicon carbide coating layers 43. The baffle plates 42 are formed of graphite and the entire surface thereof is coated wit the silicon carbide coating layers 43. The silicon carbide coating layers 43 are formed by a CVD method and the thickness thereof is preferably about 50-1,000mu. The lives of the cooling body 41 and the baffle plates 42 one thereby extended and eventually the cost is reduced.
