PURPOSE:To improve toughness as well as ductility by refining the grains of Li-containing Al alloy. CONSTITUTION:At the time of hot-rolling the Al alloy containing 0.2-4wt% Li, the volume percentage of an Al-Lidelta phase having a size of >=0.5 microns is regulated to 1-15%. Then the above alloy is subjected to working at >=30% reduction in area and to reheating to the temp. region between 500 deg.C and the melting point or below. In this way, crystalline grains are remarkably refined without deteriorating soundness of products, so that toughness as well as ductility can be improved.
