PURPOSE:To obtain a cast iron having expansion coefficient as low as one-tenth - one-sixth that of conventional cast iron, by incorporating specific amounts of nickel, cobalt, vanadium, niobium and carbon to cast iron. CONSTITUTION:The cast iron has a composition consisting of, by weight, 26-34% nickel, 1-5% cobalt, 0.1-0.3% vanadium, 0.01-0.04% niobium, 2-4% carbon, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. This cast iron is manufactured by adding the above additive elements, e.g., to iron melt independently or in the form of master alloy. This cast iron has about 1.4-2X10<-6>/ deg.C coefficient of thermal expansion.
