PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high conversion, selectivity and efficiency, by oxidizing a compound having C-C double bond in liquid phase with oxygen in the presence of a metal porphyrin, imidazole compound, acid anhydride and nicotinamide compound. CONSTITUTION:The desired epoxy compound can be produced in high efficiency by reacting a compound having carbon-carbon double bond, preferably a 5-8C cycloolefin or a compound of formula (R is H, OH or acetoxyl; n is integer of 1-5) with oxygen in liquid phase in the presence of (a) a metal porphyrin such as tetra(4-sulfophenyl)porphinatomanganese, etc., (b) an imidazole compound such as 1-methylimidazole, (c) an acid anhydride such as benzoic anhydride, (d) a nicotinamide compound such as methyl dihydronicotinamide and, if necessary, (e) a flavin compound such as flavin mononucleotide. The component (e) accelerates the reduction rate of the central metal of (a) with (d) to about 1,600 times.
