PURPOSE:To prevent an overlapping printing processing of the printing data transferred from a host unit on an already printed portion, by a method wherein an information which was previously printed or set on a medium to be printed is read followed by the judgement of the already printed portion within a printable area on the medium to be printed according to the image information. CONSTITUTION:An information which was previously printed or set on a ledger is read by an image reader 11, and according to the binary image data in white/ black form an already printed portion within a printable area on the ledger is judged by a recognition means (a recognition part 82). The positional relationship is operated based on the judged information and the printing position for the printing data which was calculated in a printing position calculation means (a printing position calculation part 9) on the basis of the printing data from a host unit, and the already printed portion within the printable area on the ledger is judged by a printed position judgement means (a printed position judgement part 10), whereby a printing can be processed accurately without an overlapping printing of the printing data transferred from the host unit on the printed portion.
