PURPOSE:To enable to a color liquid crystal display element to handle more information and to improve its compatibility with CRTs by providing segment drivers for every three primary colors and driving them in parallel. CONSTITUTION:Display data on the three primary colors are separated into red element data RD0-3, green element data GD0-3, and blue element data BD0-3, which are transferred to a red segment driver 3, a green segment driver 2, and a blue segment driver 1 respectively to activate signal electrodes R1, G1, and B,...Rm, Gm, and Bm of the color liquid crystal display element 4 with (mXn) picture elements. Outputs Y1...Ym of a common driver 5 are made active in order to turn on the color liquid crystal display element 4 with the (mXn) picture elements. Consequently, the highest operation frequency of the segment drivers of the color liquid crystal display mode increases apparently, so the color liquid crystal display element which handles more information can be driven.
