PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having an excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristic and excellent durability of a magnetic layer by using specific silane coupling agents in combination of two kinds into the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The silane coupling agent having a polyalkylene oxide group in the molecule and the silane coupling agent having an amino group in the molecule are incorporated into the magnetic layer. The silanol group formed by the hydrolysis of the former silane coupling agent makes coupling reaction with the hydroxyl group on the surface of magnetic powder and adsorbs the polyalkylene oxide group toward the outside of the magnetic powder particles and therefore the dispersibility of the magnetic powder is highly improved by the stereoscopic protection effect of the adsorption layer. The latter silane coupling agent makes coupling reaction with the hydroxyl group on the surface of the magnetic powder and adsorbs the amino group toward the outside of the magnetic powder particles. The amino group reacts with the functional group contained in the binder resin or a polyisocyanate compd. as a crosslinking agent and since the secure chemical bond is formed among the same, the durability of the magnetic layer is improved.
