A stable, chlorite-containing, aqueous bleaching medium, which upon dilution with water is suitable for use in the bleaching of cotton fabrics, contains at least 200 g. per litre of chlorite calculated as sodiumchlorite and a salt of amidosulphuric acid other than a salt with a monoalkanolamino. Alkali metal, alkaline earth metal and ammonium chlorites may be used. The solutions may be produced by the addition of the salts of amidosulphuric acid to the concentrated chlorite solutions or by adding mixtures of amidosulphuric acid and solutions of inorganic or organic bases, e.g. sodium hydroxide to the chlorite solutions. The chlorite solution may also contain surface-active substances, e.g. a p-alkyl phenol-polyglycol ether, and/or buffers. |
