PURPOSE:To carry out reaction, by the coexistence of a tris(substituted aryl) phosphite having a specific physical properties in hydroformylating 3-methyl-3- buten-1-ol in the presence of an Rh compound to give the titled substance. CONSTITUTION:3-Methyl-3-buten-1-ol is hydroformylated to give the titled substance. In the process, the reaction is carried out using Rh in 0.01-0.1mg atom/l concentration thereof expressed in terms of Rh atoms and in the coexistence of a tris(substituted aryl)phosphite having 2,080-2,090/cm electronic parameter and 135-190 deg.C steric parameter and expressed by the formula P(OR)3 (R is substituted aryl) in a molar amount of 110-500 times, preferably 150-300 times based on one Rh gram atom at 60-150 deg.C under 60-120 atm to affored the titled substance. Furthermore, side reactions can be suppressed by adding an organic tertiary amine. EFFECT:A high reaction rate and selectivity are obtained in the presence of the Rh catalyst in a low concentration under mild condition.
