PURPOSE:To facilitate the formation of an electroconductive polymer in the form of a thin film by polymerization by chemical oxidation, by contacting a vapor of a polymerizable monomer with a solution of an oxidizing agent and forming a thin electro-conductive organic film at the interface between the both. CONSTITUTION:A vapor of a polymerizable monomer is contacted with a solution of an oxidizing agent to form a thin electroconductive organic film at the interface between the both. The polymerizable monomer used is an organic compound which can be vaporized at normal or elevated temperature or in a vacuum and can form an electroconductive polymer by polymerization with an oxidizing agnet. As such monomers, porrole or its derivatives, e.g., methylpyrrole, which can be particularly easily polymerized by chemical oxidation, can be suitable used. Examples of the oxidizing agents include Fe<3+>, H2O2, S2O8<2->, Cl2, Br2, highly oxidized oxy-acid ions and noble metal ions. As the solvent for forming the solution of the oxidizing agent, water is particularly preferable in respect of film forming property and evenness of the obtained film.
