NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R<1>-R<3> are alkyl). USE:An optical recording medium. PREPARATION:A 2,3,4-trialkyl-cyclopentadienone is reacted with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate at 80 deg.C for 2hr to give a dimethyl 3,4,5-trialkyl-phthalate expressed by formula II, which is then reacted with LiAlH4 in ether to convert to -COOCH3 into -CH2OH. The resultant compound is further oxidized with anhydrous chromic acid pyridine complex salt in methylene chloride to afford a compound expressed by formula III, which is then dehydrated while heating to provide the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
