PURPOSE:The reaction of 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-(4-fluorobenzoyl)-2-formyl hydrazine with levulic acid carbonyl methyl ester or its ester gives the titled compound which is used as an anti-inflammatory analgesic. CONSTITUTION:The reaction between a compound of formula I (R<1> is F, perfluoro-lower-alkyl; R<2> is lower alkoxy; R is H, lower alkyl) and another compound of formula II gives an indoleacetic acid derivative of formula III such as 1-(4-fluorobenzoyl)-5-methoxy-2-methyl-1H-indole-3-acetic acid benzyl ester, its pharmacologically permissible salt and ester. The compound of formula I is obtained, e.g., by forming a hydrazide from a substituted phenylhydrazine and a carboxylic acid or carboxylic ester through dehydration reaction in an organic solvent and by reacting the hydrazide with p-chlorobenzoyl chloride. EFFECT:The process steps are shortened with industrial advantage.
