PURPOSE:To quickly and exactly control the horizontal level of an underwater working device by a method in which a water pressure-type relative settling meter is provided to the upside of the supporting leg axis of the underwater working device, and the supporting leg is extended or contracted under control according to detected values by each settling meter. CONSTITUTION:Supporting legs 12a-12d of an underwater working device, e.g., rubble leveler, etc., are attached with level detectors 16a-16d on the axial lines. The level of the underwater working device is calculated from the difference in the water pressures of a water pressure gauge 23 in setting cylinders 21a-21d provided in the positions of the detectors 16a-16d. The extending or contracting amount of the legs 12a-12d is calculated in such a way as to eliminate the difference of levels being calculated, and the operation of the legs 12a-12d is automatically controlled. The underwater working device can thus be quickly and exactly kept horizontally without external disturbance of waves, etc.
