PURPOSE:To improve the durability of a rubber article, by improving the adhesion of a reinforcement to rubber by implanting ions of a specified element in the surface of a metallic wire-like object plated with copper, zinc or brass in reinforcing the rubber article with the metallic wire-like object. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a steel wire, a steel cord or the like is plated with a metal such as copper, zinc or brass to produce a metallic wire-like object 1 for reinforcing rubber articles. The metallic wire-like object 1 is placed in a high vacuum, and the metal-plated surface is modified by uniformly implanting ions of at least one element 4 selected from among Co, Ni, Fe, Sn, Ti, Cr, Pb and Al in the metal-plated surface of the metallic wire-like object 1 while rotating the metallic wire-like object i in the directin of an arrow 2 and at the same time moving it in the direction of an arrow 3. This metallic wire-like object as a reinforcement is buried in a rubber article (automobile tire or high-pressure hose) to obtain the titled rubber article.
