The pallets (1) are initially transported with their long sides (1A,1B) parallel with the direction of movement to an alignment unit. The pallets are then turned through 180 deg. around their centre line so that successively fed pallets from the alignment guide are turned relatively to one another. The next stage involves lateral movement of the pallets in a movement unit so that when they are fed out from the unit successively they are laterally displaced in relation to each other. The pallets are then stacked in an area (14) allocated for this purpose in such a way that those which have arrived earlier can be raised to allow a further pallet (1n) to be inserted beneath them. |
